π©Ί Step-by-Step: Check NMC Recognition for a Foreign University
1οΈβ£ Visit the Official NMC Website
Go to:
π https://www.nmc.org.in
Then:
-
Hover over “Information Desk”
-
Click “For Students to Study Medicine Abroad”
or directly go to the “Foreign Medical Institutions/Universities” section.
2οΈβ£ Check the NMC’s Official List
NMC does not publish a fixed list of approved universities anymore.
Instead, after the National Medical Commission Act, 2019, the rule is:
A university is valid/recognized if it is recognized by the respective country’s Medical Council / Competent Authority and included in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS).
So the check is 2 parts π
3οΈβ£ Check on the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS)
Go to:
π https://www.wdoms.org
Then:
-
Enter the university name (example: Osh State University).
-
Open the university’s profile.
-
Look for this line:
“This medical school is recognized by the Medical Council / Ministry of Health of [Country].”
-
Confirm that India (National Medical Commission) is listed under “Recognized by or Acceptable by.”
β If India (NMC / MCI) is mentioned — the university is valid for Indian students.
4οΈβ£ Confirm with the University
Always cross-verify by:
-
Visiting the university’s official website
-
Checking the “Accreditation” / “Recognition” / “About Us” section
-
Or emailing the Dean’s Office or International Admissions Office
Ask specifically:
“Is your medical program listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS) and recognized by the local health authority?”
5οΈβ£ Verify with the Indian Embassy or Education Consultant
Before final admission, confirm with:
-
The Indian Embassy in that country
-
Or a trusted NMC-compliant education consultant
They usually have the latest data about recognition, FMGL screening eligibility, and NMC compliance.
β Example: Valid University Check
Example: Osh State University (Kyrgyzstan)
-
β Listed in WDOMS
-
β Recognized by the Ministry of Health, Kyrgyz Republic
-
β Accepted by the National Medical Commission (India)
So, graduates are eligible for NEXT/FMGE after completing MBBS and internship.

-
Offers distance / online MBBS (not valid per NMC regulations)
-
Uses affiliated instead of main campus name
